The midlands
is a place
True story
MISSING
The DCMS's Turn It Up paper announced £150m to Creative Places Growth funding. The East Midlands isn't even mentioned. Our region showed the fastest-growing creative industries GVA in the UK, 2019 to 2023. UK Music reported over half a billion pounds in East Midlands music tourism revenue in 2024, and thousands of jobs and opportunities. Behind the scenes, our industry professionals help make the UK's biggest music events happen. It's time to shout about it.
GET ORGANISED
Music in the East Midlands comes from every background and every genre. Bhangra, reggae, indie, metal, electronic, soul & many many more.No organisation exists to connect scenes, towns and cities across the region. National funders, events and organisations think in regions. We need to get organised to make sure investment and opportunity flows to the whole region, and to open routes into the industry for the artists and professionals coming up.Inspired by the music boards of Hull, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region and the North East, we're building our own East Midlands Music Commission to develop and sustain a thriving music industry across the whole region.
RED ALERT
2025 Music Venue Trust research showed 175 towns with no regular touring shows by professional artists. East Midlands towns and cities are specifically named. Many other East Midlands towns dropped off the tour a while ago. This cannot wait.East Midlands communities deserve access to quality live music, and every artist and professional in every town should be able to get the knowledge and support they need to grow without leaving their home town.
